    A Call to Action: Conserving Avian Biodiversity in the Central Andes of Colombia

    The Nationwide Audubon Society develops strategic actions for the safety of birds and their habitats throughout the Americas via scientific analysis applications, environmental schooling, and conservation. Its organizational construction —composed of state applications, nature facilities, chapters, and an intensive community of companions— allows it to achieve tens of millions of individuals every year, strengthening group engagement and social assist for conservation.


    In the meantime, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) works collaboratively with a number of companions to make sure the conservation of wildlife and the important ecosystems for his or her survival, with the intention of producing sustainable advantages for society on a continental scale. By means of the Migratory Chicken Program, the company promotes analysis on inhabitants dynamics, habitat necessities, and public participation mechanisms, and encourages the implementation of nationwide and worldwide conservation plans and initiatives.

    Based mostly on these complementary objectives, Audubon and the USFWS have coordinated efforts and sources for the implementation of the mission “Growth of a Framework for Neighborhood Conservation of Three Precedence Migratory Chicken Species within the Central Andes of Colombia”: the Prothonotary Warbler (Setophaga cerulea), the Golden-winged Warbler (Vermivora chrysoptera), and the Canada Warbler (Cardellina canadensis). This initiative constituted the preliminary part of a conservation program aimed toward decreasing habitat degradation and restoring critically essential areas for migratory birds and different related species. Up to date conservation approaches emphasize the significance of strengthening consciousness and group participation via instructional processes and the event of other livelihoods, key parts for enhancing habitat administration and guaranteeing the efficient implementation of conservation actions.


    The execution of the mission allowed for the strengthening of capacities in regional establishments and native communities, specializing in facets akin to conservation administration, information of avifauna, participatory monitoring, and habitat restoration, selling a mannequin of sustainable technical collaboration.

    This publication presents the outcomes of the analyses and processes developed throughout the mission framework, with an emphasis on Goal 2 (“Participatory Administration for Conservation”), and presents suggestions aimed toward consolidating conservation actions for migratory and resident birds within the Central Andes of Colombia.
