2025 was a banner 12 months for conservation and group on the Audubon Middle at Debs Park. Along with our group, companions, volunteers, and passionate employees, we continued to construct a extra climate-resilient Los Angeles, one rooted in understanding native habitat, accessible training, and significant alternatives for folks to attach with nature.

Our imaginative and prescient has all the time been easy: shield and restore native habitats whereas empowering the communities who reside alongside them. On the coronary heart of our work is a small however mighty workforce: Audubon employees, youth leaders, interns, and group volunteers. We’re pushed by a holistic, people-centered strategy as a result of we consider that conservation in Los Angeles isn’t just in regards to the land, however in regards to the individuals who reside right here, be taught right here, and take care of it. Our middle bridges environmental justice, group science, and habitat restoration, making nature accessible and welcoming to all.

In 2025, we launched a brand new model of our workforce-development program, Future Leaders Igniting Better Habitat Transformation or FLIGHT. We additionally opened the gates of Los Nogales Nursery to the general public, growing entry to California native crops for each neighborhood inexperienced areas and yard ecosystems.

Seeing our interns develop this 12 months has been outstanding. We’ve watched their understanding of ecology deepen and their confidence as rising conservationists take form. Much more inspiring has been seeing them put their new abilities into follow. A number of interns have already led hen walks and hen sits on their very own campuses, supported by supplies from Audubon’s lending library. Realizing they’ve entry to those instruments has empowered them to share their information, encourage their friends, and assist shield the locations birds want.
