On July 2, 2026, Mars Petcare introduced a recall “Due to Potential Fraudulent Distribution of Product Which May Contain Foreign Material.” The recall press launch acknowledged (daring added): “The recalled merchandise didn’t meet Mars and PEDIGREE stringent security and high quality requirements. As a part of the strong high quality management course of each single PEDIGREE product undergoes, these two tons had been despatched to a third-party vendor for destruction. Mars later found that the product seems to have been fraudulently diverted and offered into {the marketplace} in the USA.”

Mars acknowledged “two tons” of pet food had been “despatched to a third-party vendor for destruction.” However…for unknown causes, the FDA Enforcement Report (FDA’s file of the incident) doesn’t disclose what number of kilos of pet meals had been concerned on this current recall. The Enforcement Report states “Product amount: unknown.” All FDA Enforcement Report information present info to amount of pet meals being recalled – however not this one. We have no idea if Mars Petcare by some means misplaced observe of precisely what number of cans of pet food had been “despatched to a third-party vendor for destruction” or if the pet meals producer didn’t share that info with the FDA (and the FDA allow them to get away with that).

Mars Petcare claims they’ve a “strong high quality management course of.” Under is a recall historical past for international objects in Mars Petcare merchandise.

In June 2012, Mars Petcare issued a recall for Pedigree canned pet food “because of a possible choking danger. Affected product could comprise small items of blue plastic, which entered the meals through the manufacturing course of.”

This recall concerned 1,653,276 cans or 1,363,951 kilos of pet food which will comprise small items of blue plastic.

In August 2014, Mars Petcare issued a recall for Pedigree dry pet food “as a result of they could comprise steel fragments.” This recall concerned 93,755 kilos of pet food.

In October 2016, Mars Petcare issued a recall for Cesar moist pet food in plastic tubs because of “a possible presence of white plastic within the completed product.“ The recall concerned 320,436 kilos of pet food.

In April 2024 Mars Petcare issued a recall for Pedigree dry pet food for “potential presence of free steel items within the bag.” The recall concerned 13,860 kilos of pet food.

As a result of Mars Petcare didn’t launch the amount info concerned in the latest recall, we all know that previous to 2026 – Mars Petcare’s historical past of “strong high quality management course of” resulted in 1.7 million kilos of pet meals being recalled. The 2 tons concerned within the 2026 recall may add one million extra kilos to this complete (this guesstimate relies on the 2012 recall of 1.3 million kilos for 3 tons).

Is that this recall historical past really ‘strong high quality management’ or was Mars Petcare utilizing these phrases as advertising and marketing (in a recall press launch) merely attempting to make the general public belief their model?
