On February 23, the Randall Davey Audubon Center misplaced a much-beloved volunteer. Eleanor Eisenmenger labored in our customer middle for greater than fifteen years greeting company and delighting anybody who was lucky sufficient to spend time along with her.

Shortly after shifting to Santa Fe in 1994, Eleanor started coming to the Middle for occasions, climbing, and looking the character retailer. In 2024 we featured her in our newsletter as a much-appreciated long-time volunteer. Here’s what she stated about her time on the Randall Davey Audubon Middle: I’ve at all times felt strongly that each one that walks within the door is my buddy. The actual fact that they’re right here is proof that they’re a kindred spirit. Through the years I can not keep in mind ever being disillusioned. Additionally, I really like the birds and animals (particularly bears and bobcats!)

Round 2018 we had a big resident black bear that was often glimpsed on the paths. Eleanor christened him Horace. We later came upon the bear was a feminine. It didn’t matter, Eleanor stated. The title Horace stood.

She was a novel and spirited human who charmed us all along with her kindness and tales of Africa and different journey locations. We’re so lucky that she shared her love of music, animals, and other people with us. She will probably be significantly missed by the volunteers, workers, and guests of the Randall Davey Audubon Middle. We will probably be planting a tree in her reminiscence on the grounds in spring.
